Remo Troubleshooting & FAQs

Please see below some frequent questions we receive while using Remo for ICSD and how you can fix any technical issues you may be experiencing. If you are in a live event, look for a staff member to help you. They are the ones with stars next to their icons.

Before you begin, please test your microphone and camera here. This will allow you to diagnose if there is a problem and where it is. Always try refreshing the page as a first step. If you are having troubles on a mobile device, please use a computer. In addition to the instructions and screen shots below, we have a YouTube playlist with some tutorial videos.

FAQs

How do I move in between tables?

Double click on a table to join it. There is a max of 6 people per table.

How do I find another participant?

In the chat function (at the bottom of your screen during conversation mode and to the right of the presentations in presentation mode), use the search bar to search their name. You can then chat and ask where they are within the event.

How do I make the videos of the people at my table bigger?

You can click on a video and it will make just that video larger. You can also select ‘Tile View‘ at the very left of your controls at the bottom of the screen to make all the videos large. Within a video, you can click the arrows in the upper right hand side to make it full screen. To get back to the view of the tables, click ‘Back to Floor‘.

How do I share my screen? (This is how you share your poster)

Select ‘Share Screen‘ in your controls at the bottom of the screen. You then have three options:

  1. Share your entire screen: this is everything on your screen, including any notifications that occur
  2. Share an application window: such as PowerPoint or Keynote
  3. Share a tab: you can select a specific tab within your browser

Select one of the 3 options, then click on the image that you want to share. Once you do, ‘Share‘ at the bottom right will turn blue and you can click on it. Your screen will be shared. To stop, select ‘Stop Sharing‘ at the bottom of your screen.

Tip: If you want to be able to see the powerpoint window AND Remo at the same time, go to “Slide Show” then “Set Up Show” and then choose “Browsed by an individual (window)”.

How do I know my screen is being shared?

There will be another video with your name on it that is showing your screen. If you have your camera on and you are sharing your screen, there will be two videos with your name on it.

I can’t see the access options to the other parallel sessions or the event sponsors. How do I see that?

Click anywhere on the screen that isn’t a table and drag until you can see it.

How do I move between floors?

Use the “elevator” option to the left hand side of your screen.

How do I make the right billboard bigger?

Hover your mouse over the billboard to zoom in.

How do I easily move between concurrent parallel sessions?

At the bottom of your screen you will see a section that is labeled ‘Event Sponsors’. Below that will be links to the other sessions happening at the same time. Click those images, then click “Go to Session __”.

I can’t access Remo using my speaker login.

Your speaker login only works for the session that you are presenting in. All other sessions you will be able to access once the session goes live.

Are you getting this error?

Make sure that you are logging in with the email that the invite was sent to, and that you do not accidentally introduce a typo when typing it in. When you log in for the first time, the system should also remind you which email this is.

If you have created an account with the wrong email, or introduced a typo, you will need to log out of Remo to create a new account with the correct email. You can log out by clicking your initial or photo in the upper right corner of the screen, and logging out. Another common issue is forgetting the password tied to the speaker email; just use the Remo prompts to reset your password.

If you need the speaker email to be changed, please write to us at info@ic-sd.org.

When I have my PowerPoint in present mode, I can’t see Remo. Is there a way around this?

Yes, in your PowerPoint, go to “Slide Show” then “Set Up Slide Show” and select “Browsed by an individual (window)”. This will make your presentation a window when you present rather than a full screen. You’ll then share the PowerPoint application when sharing your screen. Participants won’t see if you change the size of the window.

Trouble Shooting

My screen is blank and nothing is happening.

Solution 1: Try refreshing your browser.

Solution 2: Check to make sure you are using a compatible device and browser. The list of compatible devices and browsers can be found here.

I am in China and can’t access Remo.

VPN may be able to help you access Remo. Unlike proxies and browser extensions, a good VPN will encrypt your data so that it is virtually unreadable to hackers and government surveillance programs. You’ll also have your choice of virtual locations across the globe so you can easily bypass geoblocking.

Although there have been strict government crackdowns on VPNs, there are still a select few providers that will work in China If you‘re looking for a great VPN to use in China and across the globe, check this link. Above all else, we recommend installing a VPN before you travel to China. But do not worry if you are in China already, most VPN providers have a secondary alternative website that is not currently blocked by the firewall. The VPN providers occasionally change the domain name of that secondary website so that they can continually avoid the censorship.
